Well, we seem to be on the way to getting through this pandemic… but… it rather ‘did’ for The Bench Mark and the b&b has been closed for the past eighteen months or so. Now that a final ‘all-clear’ seems imminent, I have decided to re-open – in spite of the fact that I am rather enjoying the freedom that retirement brings!
So, just for the record: The Bench Mark is a private house that offers accommodation to passing travelers – passing single travelers as I only have one, single, room available. The room is centrally-heated and has a comfortable bed (I have tried it out myself). The bathroom is not en-suite, but is just across the landing and is effectively yours.
Rates are £35 per night for the room only – breakfast is extra: a basic cereals, toast, tea/coffee-type is £5; should you wish for cooked stuff as well (variants on eggs/bacon/sausage/tomato) that be an extra £2. In other words a ‘full’ breakfast is £7. Alternatively, there is the Regency Cafe at the bottom of the hill, where I believe Dot produces an excellent repast.
If there are more than just one in your party, Alison at The Walking Hub may be able to help.
One thing remains unchanged – I still make delicious Seville orange marmalade, available from here or from No. 25 Delicatessen, at the bottom of the hill…
A couple of side notes: 1) guests should be over 16 years; 2) this is an old house, with various different levels, steps and a steep curving staircase, making it most unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems; 3) this is an unashamedely meat-eating house, but vegetarians, vegans and other dietarys can be catered for – please let me know before-hand; 4) finally, there is my elderly elderly cat Benny, if anyone is allergic.
In the event you should wish to contact me, the details are to be found on the ‘CONTACT‘ page
